<1,,2949,kuma> from kuo, "to be pregnant, to swell," is used (a) literally in the plural, Matt. 8:24; 14:24; Mark 4:37 (Acts 27:41, in some mss.); (b) figuratively, Jude 1:13.
<2,,4535,salos> denotes "a tossing," especially the rolling swell of the sea, Luke 21:25, AV, "waves" (RV, "billows").
<3,,2830,kludon> "a billow," is translated "wave" in Jas. 1:6, AV (RV, "surge"); in Luke 8:24 it is translated "raging (of the water)." See RAGE, B.
